Class Simple Game 1

 Words Communication

Written by Aziza Restu Febrianto

Everyone must agree that the most difficult thing in teaching is creating attractive teachings. And it is in fact also the most crucial thing that makes your pupils keep on following your instruction. Let me share a very simple English game I’ve ever used. The game doesn’t require you to make a lot of preparations.

Preparation
Make some cards of words. The cards include English words that the pupils have learned before.
Ensure that all of them really have memorized the words and known the spellings either.

Step 1:
Ask your pupils to make lines by standing beside their desks according to their seat position and teams.

Step 2:
Give clear instructions how to play the game and check your pupils’ understanding about it.

Step 3:
Ask pupils who sit at the back rows to prepare themselves.

Step 4:
Take one of the cards and show it to them. Make sure that no one else knows it.

Step 5:
Ask them to memorize the words’ spelling on the cards.

Step 6:
Ask them to convey the words to their friends who sit in front by whispering. Just ensure that the others do not hear what they are saying. They are also not allowed to show the words by writing. Just whisper the words close to their friends’ ears.

Step 7:
The last pupils who sit at the front rows have a job to write the words correctly on the whiteboard.

Step 8:
Check who write the correct words on the whiteboard and get the winners. Those who write the words’ spellings correctly are the winners.

It’s a piece of cake, right? Just try this in your classroom!

Indonesian Professional Teacher Training Program (PPG) is one of the Governmental strategic programs in 2013 intended to support the national teachers’ development in Indonesia. The main purpose of the program is to enhance the teachers’ competencies, skills, and qualifications in Education.

According to the national fundamental rules of policies about professional teachers and lecturers (UU RI No 14/2005 Tentang Guru dan Dosen and PP RI No. 74/2008 Tentang Guru), there are basically four teachers’ competencies as the material components included in the curriculum of the Indonesian Professional Teacher Training Program (PPG) as follows;

  1. Competence of Professionalism
  2. Competence of Pedagogic/ Educating Proficiency
  3. Competence of Personality
  4. Competence of Social

It is strongly assumed that with those four competencies, teachers will have strong basic skills of teaching and using Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in class. They will also be able to:
  1. make, to execute, and to evaluate the teaching plans.
  2. do further actions as a follow-up to the evaluation they make by personal guidance and training for the students.
  3. make incessant researches related to education.
  4. improve their professionalism on an ongoing basis.
