Simile game is a teaching game used to enrich the students’ vocabulary (especially adjectives) and to make the students accustomed to using “comparative sentences,” sentences for comparing things. In this game, the students use the words “Like” and “as.”

Step 1
Students ask each other to identify certain objects around.
Step 2
Two students start to identify two similar objects.
Step 3
Finally, the other makes a complete simile.
Examples:
  1. As old as
  • Student A identifies that his/ her grandfather is old (My grandfather is old).
  • Student B also identifies that the hill is old too (The hill is old too).
  • Student C makes a complete sentence of simile:
My grandfather is as old as the hill.
  1. As strong as
  • Student A : Alex is strong.
  • Student B : The bull is strong.
  • Student C : Alex is as strong as bull.

Learning System Used in Indonesian Professional Teacher Training Program (PPG)

written by Aziza Restu Febrianto

The system of learning is divided into two terms of semesters. In the first semester, teachers as the participants are involved in the workshops of SSP (Subject Specific Pedagogy). In these workshops, they are required to prepare all sets of equipment such as Lesson Plans, Material resources, Teaching and Learning Medias, Evaluations of Learning, etc. In addition, they actively participate in the Focused Group Discussion (FGD) guided by professional lecturers. Workshop of SSP is a workshop which prepares the participants for being able to create effective educational teaching materials based on the subjects/ Subject Specific Pedagogy. They also do the teaching practices (Peer Teaching and Micro Teaching) in class.

After completing the workshops, it is assumed that all the participants are ready to take the teaching practices in schools named Field Practical Teaching (PPL). In the second semester, they do practice to teach in the real class situation. Meaning that they teach in schools and they are guided by the official designated teachers of the schools.
