How Should Teachers Talk to Their Students?

 Written by Aziza Restu Febrianto

The way that teachers talk to students is the manner in which they interact with them. It is the one of the urgent teacher skills, but it does not demand technical expertise. However, it requires teachers to empathize with the people they are talking to.
  • It seems to be fairly natural to adapt the way how parents talk to their young children.
Studies show that when parents are talking to their children, they use more exaggerated tones of voice and speak with less complex grammatical structures than they are speaking to adult people. They also attempt to make eye contact and other forms of physical contacts. They generally do these things together unconsciously.
  • Listening and understanding the students is even important as well while teaching.
It shows that the teachers really care of the students they are talking to. Therefore, feeling of empathy brings the teachers closer to the students. And finally the lesson feels more interesting.

  • Experienced teachers use physical movement such as gestures, expressions, mime, etc.
It is really important for them to show their happiness and sadness, movement and time sequences to their students especially those at lower levels.
